Mask Wearing During cancer

I am getting used to wearing a mask in public. I used to not want to wear it but understand that I need to.

Why The Mask Is Not Comfortable

The mask is not comfortable and it is uncomfortable. It is not comfortable because it is hot and it rides up into my eyes when I smile. It could actually be an excellent diet plan but it’s not. I managed to eat a box of Raisinettes at the movies last night while wearing a mask. Where there is a will, there is a way! So that explains that it’s not comfortable.

But Wait, It’s Also Uncomfortable!

Now to talk about the fact that it’s uncomfortable. I am not that self-conscious of it, but I do sometimes feel like I want to write on it “I have cancer and don’t want your germs”. Once in Houston at the airport, I coughed while wearing it and a man walked out and around me. Barbara saw him and pointed and said “TB”.  Leave it to her for comedic relief.

When I had my blood drawn this week I wore a mask. I always do at the lab. It seems like a lab could be a cesspool of germs to me. The tech was new and didn’t know me like the other two who I see regularly. He asked if I was wearing a mask so I didn’t get germs or if I had something I didn’t want to share. I giggled and explained. I do find humor in it.

I am waiting for a little child to ask about it or ask their mom in the silent way that kids do. It wouldn’t bother me at all and sometimes I feel like I want to tell the kids. You can see by the look in their eyes that they are wondering why I’m wearing it.

The Nicest Thing The TSA Agent Could Have Said

When wearing it through security at the airport the first time the TSA guy said I didn’t have to take it off. He was really sweet. He said, “you have beautiful eyes”. I think that was the first time I wore it so maybe I was feeling a little self-conscious and it showed

Maybe I Need A Fancy Mask?

They make some really cute ones that are printed on the front but I haven’t invested in one. I think they look very SARS prevention in China looking so I’m opting for the standard medical issue.
