Grace And Endurance

Mammogram

I don’t really have any cancer updates. I did have a routine mammogram this week. Although the technician isn’t allowed to say what she sees, she did show me the pictures on her computer. Short of the fact that I lack formal medical training I think everything looked fine and she seemed to as well.

Why Does God Trust Me So Much?

As many of you know, Sean broke his foot last weekend. He had a CT scan on Friday and hopefully will know the course of treatment next week.  What’s the Mother Theresa saying? “God only gives you what you can handle.  I just wish He didn’t trust me so much.” The boys were at a roller-skating party last night and I was fully prepared for a broken arm. My strength might have come to a screeching halt at that point but we made it unscathed.

A Special Quilt For Comfort During Treatment

This week has been another week filled with cards, emails, messages, special gifts, and an outpouring of love and support. It’s incredible. I love them all. Thank you to everyone. My mother in law, Lorraine, is a crafty quilter. My mother has dabbled in quilting in the past and had tons of fabric. My parents are cleaning out and preparing to sell their house so several bags of fabric went to Lorraine. Lorraine made a beautiful quilt with many of the fabrics my mom gave her.

So very special. She added a label that was very sweet. We are at the beach so I don’t have it in front of me. I will post a picture from home. My naps seem to be regular so it is a perfect way to “wrap” myself in the love and prayers that people are sending.

Grace And Endurance

Since my post about Kristin Armstrong, I have been given two different books by her. I started “Work In Progress. An Unfinished Woman’s Guide to Grace”. I’m enjoying it. Nice easy read. Grace, I love that word. Webster defines grace as “a pleasing or attractive quality or endowment”. It is a goal of mine to handle this situation with grace. The other Kristin Armstrong book is “Mile Markers. The 26.2 Most Important Reasons Why Women Run”. Given to my by my sweat sister, Jen. I am loving it. So much that I keep putting it down so that it lasts.

If you are female and a runner I think you should read it. There are too many things that jump off the pages for me, but in particular, she talks about is how runners are doers by nature. True. She talks about two of her friends and how they ran to help friends. In a nutshell, she said that her friend Ellen “used her endurance to help someone else endure.” Perfect statement.

Many runners run for a cause – they use their endurance. I guess that’s what I did in June when I ran the San Diego Marathon to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Now I am using my endurance so that I can endure. As much as I don’t feel like running when I get up early and it’s 90 degrees and 500% humidity, I know that I will feel great after and I need to endure.

The definition of “endure” from Websters is “to hold out against; sustain without impairment or yielding: undergo”. OK grace and endurance, here we go.

Sarah’s Key

Last night I saw the movie “Sarah’s Key”.  If you haven’t read the book, I would highly recommend it. However, if you are not a reader, see the movie. I really think the movie stands on its own. Not easy subject matter, but so good.
